Perceptual Adaptive Quantization of Stereoscopic Video Coding Using Mpeg-2's Temporal Scalability Structure

چکیده
Signi cant perceptual improvements can be gained in the coding of stereoscopic videos, as is illustrated here by modifying the adaptive quantization of an MPEG-2 codec. Applying human visual properties to MPEG-2's temporal scalability framework, a perceptual adaptive quantization approach to stereoscopic video coding is presented. To optimize the perceived picture quality of the reconstructed stereo images, binocular visibility of stereo coding artifacts is investigated, including image fusion and visual masking. Four normalized indicators are introduced to account for 3D visual artifacts, and are incorporated to determine the quantization parameters. They are (1) prediction accuracy, (2) prediction correlation, (3) fusion indicator, and (4) texture intensity. Simulations indicate the importance of perceptual stereo coding, with improvements in overall stereo quality and reductions in binocular artifacts.

In this paper, we investigate the MPEG-2 temporal scalability syntax and introduce a new approach to temporally scalable coding. Temporal scalability is provided by employing various nonlinear prediction and demultiplexing schemes. A nonlinear deinterlacing algorithm is presented and the related issues on interlaced, progressive and mixed mode video processing are addressed. In addition to the ...
متن کاملTemporally scalable motion compensated adaptive temporal subband coding of video
It has been asserted that temporal subband coding (TSB) is inferior to predictive coding for regionally motion compensated (e.g. block-based MC) temporally scalable compressed video [1]. There are two major disadvantages of TSB coding: temporal ltering distortions, and `open-loop' predictive coding of covered and uncovered regions. The `open-loop' structure of TSB coding, however, a ords two ma...

In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for coding the stereoscopic video sequence based on the global displacement information between the leftand right-view images. MPEG-4 temporal scalable video coding scheme is employed as the baseline, in which the leftand right-view images are compressed as the base and enhancement layer, respectively. To further improve the coding efficiency, some in...
متن کاملScalable Motion-Adaptive Video Coding with Redundant Representations
This paper presents a scalable video coding scheme (MP3D), based on the use of a redundant 3-D spatio-temporal dictionary of functions. The spatial component of the dictionary consists of directional and anisotropically scaled functions, which form a rich collection of visual primitives. The temporal component is tuned to capture most of the energy along motion trajectories in the video sequenc...
